Charles Robert Mason, Jr.

Charles Robert Mason, Jr., 74 of Urbana, Arkansas passed away April 15, 2024 after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Mason of El Dorado.

He is survived by his brother, Clark W. Mason (Janell) of Little Rock, his son, Jeff Mason (Tica) of El Dorado, nephews Clark Riley Mason, Reid Mason and Taylor DeCastro, and grand nephews Bentley and Beckett Mason.

Charles, known to his friends as “C.R.”, was a 1967 graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN, and initially attended Harding University, lettering in football for the Bison. Charles ultimately graduated from Arkansas A&M, now the University of Arkansas, Monticello. After graduation, Charles chose a career as a welder, and was soon widely known for his ability to build everything from large oil storage tanks for local refineries and oilmen to designing and manufacturing custom log trailers for logging contractors, many of which are still in use today. Yet above all, Charles loved the outdoors and was a lifelong avid hunter. Charles managed over 400 acres of timberland in the Urbana area, and spent years focused on deer management, ultimately leading to unparalleled deer hunting and his tradition of hosting his brother and his nephews for his annual deer hunts. Joined by his brother Clark, Charles made sure his nephews not only learned to enjoy hunting, but how to hunt safely, and he always made sure everyone was on the right deer stand at the right time to ensure they had their chance to harvest a deer every year. Charles lifelong love of the outdoors and hunting soon led him to his ultimate passion, making custom rifles and ammunition for a select clientele. Prior to his illness, Charles was a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer and was consistently making custom rifles for collectors and hunters throughout South Arkansas and beyond.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 5-7 p.m. at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado. A graveside service will be held the next day on Monday, April 22nd at 11:00 a.m., at the Urbana Cemetery.
